The materials used in your next swimming pool cover will make a big difference to its effectiveness

If there is one thing that can be said about swimming pool covers, it’s that there is no such thing as ‘just’ a swimming pool cover. That’s because these items will represent a crucial investment in your pool, and depending on whether the cover in question is a solar cover, a winter cover, or even perhaps a pool enclosure, you are likely to have high expectations of its performance, durability, and longevity.

One factor that will always make a big difference to the effectiveness of a given swimming cover, is the combination of materials used in it. So, we thought we would take a closer look at some of the materials our own swimming pool covers incorporate, and what you should know about them.

We present a wealth of material options for solar covers

As the term ‘solar cover’ implies, this type of swimming pool cover is designed to be used during the height of the swimming pool ‘season’ of the spring and summer.

When you purchase such a cover for your pool, you will want it to be capable of preventing dirt and debris from getting into the pool water; however, a great solar cover will also help keep your pool water warm by allowing the sun’s heat through. At the same time, it will provide a barrier between the water surface and the atmosphere, thereby also helping to minimise the loss of water through evaporation.

With all the above needs in mind, it is no wonder that the materials used in solar covers have become rather sophisticated these days.

Even the most basic of our material options for solar covers, the 400-micron Blue GeoBubble, comes with a three-year pro rata warranty. Meanwhile, the 500-micron EnergyGuard GeoBubble material is an excellent option for saving energy and preventing algae growth in indoor pools, and the 500-micron Platinum+ GeoBubble material incorporates additional ultraviolet (UV) protection, and is accompanied by a six-year pro-rata warranty.

But what about our winter covers for swimming pools?

It is probably a very good time of year for you to ask this question. Yes, on one hand, the winter might not exactly be at the forefront of your mind right now, but you will need to have some kind of plan for looking after your pool when the colder and rainier months do arrive. Plus, the relative lack of demand for winter pool covers at this time of year could make the current moment an excellent one to purchase such a pool cover.

Our own in-stock Plastica winter covers here at Pool Warehouse help demonstrate what the best mesh swimming pool covers are capable of. Their incorporation of a green/black heavy-duty polypropylene mesh allows for the rainwater to pass through these covers, at the same time as preventing larger pieces of debris and leaves from reaching the pool water.

As the above examples show, the choice of materials that manufacturers use in their pool covers is crucial; such items are a major investment for swimming pool owners, so they are rightly subject to demanding expectations.

Given our own status as the only UK manufacturers of solar pool covers to sell direct to the public, we are accustomed to fulfilling such lofty expectations. So, whether you are in the market for mesh swimming pool covers, solar covers, a pool enclosure, or another solution, you can have the utmost faith in our friendly and complete customer service, as well as in our great-value prices.
